Filter Bag & Media Selection for the Steel Industry: EAF, Blast Furnace & Sintering

Specialized filtration guide for metallurgy: high thermal fluctuations in electric arc furnaces, abrasive iron oxide dust, and desulfurization baghouse considerations.

Steel manufacturing represents one of the most mechanically demanding environments for dust collectors due to extreme temperature swings, explosive combustible gases (CO), and high-density abrasive iron oxide dust.

1. Electric Arc Furnace (EAF / 电炉除尘)

During scrap charging, meltdown, and oxygen blowing cycles, EAF canopy and fourth-hole exhaust gas temperatures fluctuate wildly from 80°C up to 220°C in minutes. Aramid (Nomex) needle felt with spark-resistant and water/oil-repellent finish is the gold standard for high mechanical modulus under rapid cycling. Air-to-cloth ratio: 0.9–1.1 m/min.

2. Sinter Plant Exhaust & Machine End (烧结机机尾除尘)

Sintered iron ore dust features extreme hardness and density. Traditional polyester bags suffer from premature abrasion at bag cuffs and bottoms. Thick 550–600 g/m² polyester with singed finish and extended double-layer bottom sleeves or FMS high-temp composite felts are recommended.

3. Blast Furnace Dry Gas Cleaning (高炉煤气干法除尘)

Operating in positive pressure environments containing highly flammable, toxic carbon monoxide (CO), filter media must provide absolute anti-static conductive safety and resist temperatures up to 240°C. Stainless steel fiber blended FMS or P84 felts with heavy-duty grounded snap-bands ensure zero spark discharge.
